At School we have begun Talk 4 Writing in our English lessons.  Talk 4 Writing is a fantastic way for the children to explore a story verbally, as a reader and then finally as a writer.  To begin our sessions, a story (linked to our topics) is shared, and the children learn how to retell the story using actions.  Story maps are then created so that the children can retell the story using their pictures and key words.  We then move on to innovating the story, by changing certain parts of it.  During this the children work hard on writing the story in their own words, using all of the skills that they have been taught.  Once this has been achieved the children then re-invent the story.

Talk 4 Writing is a fantastic way for the children to explore and develop their verbal skills as well as their written skills.  The vocabulary that the children use in English has improved greatly, due to their amazing story telling skills.

Year 2 have been reading and writing about 'The Scarecrows Wedding' by Julia Donaldson.  Here are two of our super story maps.
